The Great Gatsby- Love It or Hate It?

I have just finished rereading The Great Gatsby. I will be doing it with my juniors this fall. It's one of those books that evokes strong responses from people even years after they've read it. Responses along the "Favorite book ever!" or "I hated that book lines!" Which camp do you fall in?

Loved it, even though I get the Eggs mixed up.

West Egg=New Money. East Egg=Old Money.

I have to say, I hated it. Every single minute of it. :D But, I know a lot of people who love it.

I thought it was utterly awful. The characters are shallow, the story is lame. The accident was an unbelievable coincidence. As if there are only thirty people living in New York and surroundings who are all travelling the same road at the same time, and being all insane or drunk

It seemed really declarative throughout the entire story, to me:
I moved into this house. We went to a party. I looked at Gatsby. Gatsby looked at Daisy.

I guess I don't understand how it became so incredibly popular, but I don't hate it either. In fact I think I will read it again and give it another chance.
